Crawford Hill

and you thought moving coal trains would be easy...

There aren't any tunnels in Nebraska, are there ???

OK, there aren't any left. At one time, though, Crawford Hill hosted the only railroad bore in Nebraska. It was bypassed, though, during line changes in the late seventies/early eighties when the grades over the hill were eased, along with curvature decreased. So, what is so special about Crawford Hill anyway? Well, to me, it is the nearest railroad to me, well, not anymore, but when I was in high school, Sunday mornings were spent on the hill. I should have gone over more, but I never thought about it till I took a drive over to Crawford one morning, and happened to follow an eastbound coal load up the hill. I hope to include lots of information here about Crawford Hill, including maps, images, railfan locations, etc. If you would like to contribute anything, let me know at crawfordhill@mentalfusion.com. I would love to hear from you, and would like it even more if you have any images. On to the show...
